The tale of our Engagement...

As I mentioned the other day, I pretty much knew from our first date that I loved and wanted to marry D.
I also knew that since God placed us together, that we would do everything in His timing.  So, we sat back and enjoyed the ride of life and love in God's Hands.  What an amazing year it has been!!  I'm not going to pretend like everything has been gumdrops and rainbows though.  We have had a few bumps along the way, but we are strong and full of love.  We know that in order for this to work, God has to have preeminence.  If He is not first in our relationship, we will never make it.  That right there is what keeps us going.

So, now for the juicy details...
It was Friday, April 13th.
A scary day for all the superstitious peeps out there, but just a regular day for me.
Ok, well it wasn't a regular day really, for the following reasons:
  • It was a Friday, after all.  (Love those!)
  • It was Sister #3's birthday.  (That chick is getting old.)
  • I was sick.  (So bad that I went to the Dr, which I NEVER do.)
So, my day went like this:  I went to work...went to the Dr...got a steroid shot and some meds...went back to work...then went to a church get-together.
I felt bad and looked worse, but there was boiled crawfish involved and I never miss out on that yummy goodness!  Gotta love South Lousiana!
So, while we are waiting for the crawfish to finish up, D asked me if I wanted to just walk around.  We hadn't seen each other too much that week, plus I'm always up for some QT with my man.  Besides, it's easier to avoid mosquito attacks while walking anyways.  Gotta love South Louisiana!
We walked around the church parking lot, then to the front of the building. We talked about the crawfish, the weather and about the new plants they had just planted in front of the church.  Then, he says "Check out the sign".  I glance up at the church sign and see this:

I was speechless!
Then I turn around, he gets down on one knee, pulls out a gorgeous ring and asks me to marry him.
I cried, of course, then said "Yes!".
What I loved about it was that at the moment of the actual proposal, it was just him and I.  But then after we had our "moment" we were able to walk around the corner and celebrate with our friends and family.

It was one of the greatest moments of my life!
It was not a huge elaborate over-the-top production.  It was PERFECT!!
Here's why:
  • It was a surprise!  (I LOVE surprises!)
  • It was at church.  (This is where we met and where we spend most of our time.  Our lives revolve around church and I wouldn't have it any other way.)
  • We celebrated by "pinching tails and sucking heads" of some perfectly boiled crawfish!

Here is a better picture of my beautiful and perfect-for-me ring without the crawfish juice and chipped nail polish:

Isn't is gorgeous?
It is dainty, antique-style, and exactly what I would've picked out if I had any say in it.
He did a great job!  Reason #5,294 of why I love him!

Funny story about the wording on the sign.  My brother-in-law was D's PIC, and got the letters and went out to do the sign.  When they got out there, they realized that he had grabbed an "F" instead of an "E".  So, the sign would've read "MFLISSA WILL YOU MARRY ME?"  lol
So, they just left the beginning off so it read "Lissa", which is perfect because that is what D calls me anyways.

So, that's it!  That is how I became the Future Mrs. D.

We are not rushing with the Wedding date/planning, just still doing things in God's time.
Of course, this hasn't stopped me from pinning tons of cute Wedding stuff.
I am planning a post soon to share with you guys some of my pins or my Wedding Wish List, if you will.  Stay tuned...

  1. Loved every detail of your story! You are definitely starting it off just right. My dh and I met at college and he proposed to me right before our senior year there. It was beautiful and I still remember every detail almost 20 years later. =) Your ring is gorgeous by the way. I love my ring, but if I had to choose one today, I'd go with the style that you have. I love it. Congratulations again!

  2. LOVE the ring!!!! So happy for you! And I didn't know you were from Bro. Foote's church! We were there in 2007 (I think) to present our ministry! Small world.

    1. Thanks, Kami! Small world, indeed. Have you read the "Paying the Price" post I wrote last week? It's about Bro. Foote.
