A Parent's Prayer

Jen over at Taste and See posted this the other day.  She had gotten it from her Mother-In-Law and I asked to "steal" it for myself.  Jen was unclear of the author, but by just googling around, I think I figured out that it was written by Garry Cleveland Myers, P.H.D., Co-Founder Highlights for Children.  It can be found here.

I printed it out and plan on reading it every morning when I do my devotions.
I love my kiddos with all of my heart and am so thankful that God gave me these precious gifts!

I pray that God helps me to be the best mother I can for them!

A Parents Prayer

Oh, God, make me a better parent.
Help me to understand my children,
to listen patiently to what they have to say
and to answer all their questions kindly.
Keep me from interrupting them,
talking back to them and contradicting them.
Make me as courteous to them
as I would have them be to me.

Give me the courage to confess my sins
against my children and to ask of them forgiveness,
when I know that I have done them wrong.

May I not vainly hurt the feelings of my children.
Forbid that I should laugh at their mistakes or
resort to shame and ridicule as punishment.

Let me not tempt a child to lie and steal.
So guide me hour by hour that I may demonstrate
by all I say and do that honestly produces happiness.

Reduce, I pray, the meanness in me.
May I cease to nag:
and when I am out of sorts,
help me, O Lord, to hold my tongue.

Blind me to the little errors of my children
and help me to see the good things that they do.
Give me a ready word for honest praise.

Help to treat my children as those of their own age,
but let me not exact of them the judgments
and conventions of adults.
Allow me not to rob them of the opportunity
to wait upon themselves,
to think, to choose, and to make decisions.

Forbid that I should ever punish them
for my self satisfaction.
May I grant them all of their wishes that are
reasonable
and have the courage always to
withhold a privilege that I know will do them harm.
Amen

Oh my goodness, do I LOVE Christmas!!!
I love the lights, the sounds, the smells, the cheer and the gifts are ok, too!  ;o)

Christmas has become even more special since I had Toots.
I always have a blast shopping for her, wrapping up her presents, making cookies, watching her face on Christmas morning...and of course all the cutie patootie pics of her!  :o)

She still took cute pictures, of course.  :o)

30 days of Thankful - #1

I have planned in my head since like September to start this on Nov. 1st and totally forgot about it yesterday.  Another reason why I have to make lists and goals.  ;o)

For the month of November I will try to post every day something that I am thankful for.
Since I missed yesterday, I will do #1 and #2 today.

#1 - I am thankful...for my beautiful daughter, Toots!

She is the most amazing child I know and I say that because I am totally 100% partial.
I am so very proud to get to be called her Momma.

She is growing into a lovely, funny, smart young lady!

I am thankful for her kisses in the morning and hugs before bed.

I am thankful for her salvation and her desire to live for the Lord.

I am thankful for the fountain of useless knowledge that flows from her mouth on a daily basis.
(Last night she informed me that "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" has 14 syllables in it.)

I am thankful for this precious gift from God!!
